I was going through my Dad's old papers and stumbled across this newsletter from the 13th A.A.F., dated October 23, 1944. I wonder how it would be to be fighting a war in the South Pacific and find out that the President had died.
Shocking, then wonder at who would be the next president. I think it would come with some uncertainty. Even, if you didn't like the Pres. you knew what he would probably do. With a new guy coming in you wouldn't know what to expect.
I bet he could have told you just where he was and what he was doing when he received the news. I still vividly remember where I was and what was happening on 9/11.

I bet it was a little scary and most certainly shocking.

Interesting, that day is important in our family. It must have been worth remembering to grandpa, since he saved it.
